Recipe Ingredients for Split pea soup with cabbage

5 small mushrooms
6 cups water
4 cups chicken broth
4 cups chopped cabbage
1 onion
6 cloves garlic
1 cup chopped green beans
1 lb split peas

Recipe Directions for Split pea soup with cabbage

  1. chop the mushrooms, cabbage, onion, garlic, and green beans

  2. In a large pot cook the onion and garlic until the aroma mellows.

  3. Pour in the water and chicken broth and the split peas.

  4. Bring the water to a boil for 10 minutes.

  5. Add the green beans and cabbage.

  6. When the cabbage has gotten slightly translucent, add the mushrooms.

  7. Boil until the split peas are tender. Spice to taste.

  8. (Optional) serve with a little bacon sprinkled on top.
