I made a batch of this when I could only eat soft foods and soups.

Recipe Ingredients for Split Pea Soup Base

1 c barley
3/4 c split peas
1/2 c onion
1/4 c carrots
1/4 c celery
6 c water

Recipe Directions for Split Pea Soup Base

  1. Wash and check barley and splitpeas.

  2. Chop onions and carrots and celery

  3. Cook in 6 c water for about 45-60 minutes

  4. The base will be pretty thick. To make the soup, use about 1.5 c of the base, 2 tsp soup powder and 1 c hot water. Blend in blender until smooth. Heat as necessary.

  5. Refrigerate leftover base for the next meal.
