Recipe Ingredients for Split pea with Ham soup - Homemade

16 oz Pork, Cured, Ham, Steak, Boneless, Extra Lean, Unheated
2 medium Russet Potato
16 oz Split Peas
0.5 medium (2-1/2" dia) Onions
2 clove Garlic
2 medium Carrots
2 stalk, medium (7-1/2" - 8" long) Celery
8 cup Chicken Stock
1 tbsp Olive Oil

Recipe Directions for Split pea with Ham soup - Homemade

  1. Cube 16oz lean Ham steak, into bite size cubes. Heat 1 Tbsp olive oil in saute pan over medium heat. Add 1/2 medium onion,diced to heated oil and saute until tender. Then add 2 cloves of Garlic, minced and cubed ham and cook for 60 seconds. Remove from heat and transfer mixture to slow cooker or crock pot. Add 8 cups of chicken stock, 1 cup water, 16 oz of rinsed and soaked split peas and bay leaf to the pot. Cook on low heat for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

  2. Now add 2 diced carrots, 2 celery stalks diced, and 2 medium cubed russet potatoes, skinless to the pot and cook for an additional 45 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Remove bay leaf.

  3. Serve with your favorite bread.
