Tomato sauce with a little kick. Herbs and chipotle peppers add layers of flavour without the fat.

Recipe Ingredients for Spicy Tomato Sauce

1 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion
4 cloves garlic
3 tbsp tomato paste
28 oz crushed tomatoes
1 tsp minced chipotle peppers (en adobo)
2 tsp chopped oregano leaves
1/4 cup fresh rosemary
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup fresh basil

Recipe Directions for Spicy Tomato Sauce

  1. In a 4 quart saucepan heat the oil over medium heat

  2. Saute the onions for 3 minutes, or until translucent

  3. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute

  4. Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, chipotles, oregano, rosemary and salt

  5. Bring to a low boil, reduce heat and cook for 15 minutes, until liquid has evaporated slightly

  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste
