The benefits of this recipe are that it is extremely easy to make, relatively low fat, has a small number of calories, no cholesterol, and is a good source of carbohydrates. While it does have some fiber, protein, calcium, and iron, the chips have only an insignificant amount of these nutrients. The downfalls of this recipe include that it is has a very small amount of vitamins and minerals and has a lot of sodium. It would serve as a good snack but should mot replace a meal.

Recipe Ingredients for Spicy Pita Chips

6 pitas
2 1/2 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cayenne pepper

Recipe Directions for Spicy Pita Chips

  1. With a sharp knife, cut each pita bread in half, then each half into 3 triangles. Gently pull apart each triangle to separate it into 2 pieces, resulting in 12 triangles per pita.

  2. Preheat oven to 375°F

  3. Lay the triangles in a single layer on a large nonstick baking sheet.

  4. Lightly coat triangles with olive oil and then sprinkle on salt and cayenne pepper for flavor.

  5. Bake for 7 minutes, until pita begins to color. Turn pitas over and continue to bake until crisp and golden brown, about another 5 minutes. Store in airtight containers or self-sealing plastic bags.
