Traditional indian vegetarian dish, eaten usually with tandoori roti or naan. Note: Soup broth (Organic Vegetable Broth by Whole Foods) and canned (Organic diced and salted tomatoes from Whole Foods) were used however not accurately captured by CC recipe analizer app. Hence salt/sugar content may be under-estimated.

Recipe Ingredients for Spicy Gabanzo beans

1 1/2 cups dried garbanzo beans
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 cup canned tomatoes
2 tablespoon ginger, pureed
2 tablespoon garlic, pureed
1/2 cup vegetable broth
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
2 teaspoon garam masala
2 tablespoon fresh coriander, roughly chopped

Recipe Directions for Spicy Gabanzo beans

  1. Wash garbanzo beans and soak for at least 6 hours. Rinse periodically and ensure water runs clear before using.

  2. Cook the garbanzo beans in a pressure cooker till soft. Drain and set aside. Alternatively, you may use canned garbanzo beans (28oz).

  3. Heat pan and add the oil.

  4. When oil is hot, add pureed ginger, garlic and chopped onions into the pan and fry till onions are carmalized.

  5. Add tumeric and continue stirring for approximately 1 minute.

  6. Add the garbazo beans and stir thoroughly for 2-3 minutes. Add the tomatoes and let it simmer for approximately 15 minutes till the gravyliquid thickens. Add the garam masala and fresh corianda. Season to taste, if required.

  7. Serve while hot with naan or roti.

  8. This dish keeps well (approximately 4-5 days) in the fridge in an air-tight container and can be enjoyed after heating up in the microwave.
