Black bean patties can be served alone, on a bun, or in a wrap. They are especially tasty topped with a few slices of avocado!

Recipe Ingredients for Spicy Black Bean Patties

2 cup Beans, Black, Mature Seeds
1/2 cup Corn, Sweet, Yellow
1 tbsp Flaxseed Meal
2 oz Jalapenos
0.5 cup Bread Crumbs, Dry, Grated, Plain
0.5 serving Ground Cumin
1 tsp Salt, Table
1 tsp Pepper, Black
1 serving Cooking Spray 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Recipe Directions for Spicy Black Bean Patties

  1. Smash 2 cups of black beans in a large bowl to form a bean paste. Some beans can be left whole.

  2. Add 1/2 a cup of defrosted corn kernels and mix well.

  3. Add cumin, salt, and pepper to taste.

  4. Combine a tablespoon of the ground flax with 3 tablespoons of water. Mix well and let stand for 5 minutes to thicken.

  5. Add thickened flax mixture and 1/2 a cup of breadcrumbs to the bean mixture. Mix well until combined.

  6. Add chopped jalapenos if you want a little bit of spice. Cayenne pepper also works well for added heat.

  7. Start forming six balls of the bean mixture. It will be pretty moist but it should still hold together. If its too moist, sprinkle in a bit more breadcrumbs.

  8. Flatten the balls to form patties.

  9. Heat a large pan to medium high heat and spray with cooking spray.

  10. Add the patties to the pan 3 at a time. Cook approximately 5 - 10 mins on each side or until they turn golden brown.

  11. Serve as desired.
