This recipe has been refined over the years; I have no idea where I got it in the first place. You can use ground beef or turkey, you can eliminate the wine, and you can use fresh herbs or just simply ?Italian seasoning?. Results will differ but it is worthwhile to try it with what you have rather than stressing over following the recipe perfectly

Recipe Ingredients for Spaghetti Sauce

1 lb Italian Sausage, cooked and drained
1 Onion
1 Red Bell Pepper
1 T garlic
1 c red wine
56 oz crushed tomatoes
6 oz tomato paste
1 T sugar
2 t red wine vinegar
1 T dried basil leaves
2 t dried oregano leaves
1/2 t dried thyme leaves
1 t pepper

Recipe Directions for Spaghetti Sauce

  1. Brown sausage, drain fat. Reheat and add onions and peppers, cook 5 min. Add garlic, cook 3 min more.

  2. Pour in wine, bring to a boil. Add tomatoes, tomato paste and vinegar. Put in herbs, pepper and sugar. Add salt carefully, you can put it in but you can?t take it out. Add more seasonings to taste if desired.

  3. Simmer 45 min to 1 hr. Too long and the meat starts to break down. Serve over pasta.
