Recipe Ingredients for Spaghetti with lentil and tomato sauce

2 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
400 grams canned tomatoes, crushed
1 tsp basil
1 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp cinnamon
225 grams red lentils, dried
425 ml water
1 salt
1 black pepper
225 grams spaghetti

Recipe Directions for Spaghetti with lentil and tomato sauce

  1. Heat the oil in a largish saucepan and fry the onion and garlic until they?re tender - about 10 minutes; then add the tomatoes, herbs, cinnamon, lentils, water and wine and bring up to the boil.

  2. Simmer mixture with a lid on the saucepan for about 25 minutes, until the lentils are tender.

  3. Taste, and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
