This lightning-fast recipe always gets rave reviews at my house, probably because everything tastes better with bacon.

Recipe Ingredients for Spaghetti Carbonara My Way

1 pound uncooked spaghetti
1/2 pounds bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 medium onion, very finely minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp fresh basil, finely chopped
2 large eggs, well beaten
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Recipe Directions for Spaghetti Carbonara My Way

  1. Cook spaghetti in boiling water, according to package directions

  2. Meanwhile, cook bacon in a large heavy skillet over medium heat until nicely crispy. Remove bacon from skillet using a slotted spoon to a small bowl (DO NOT dump out bacon drippings, because that's where this recipe gets its flavor.)

  3. Cook onion, garlic and basil in bacon drippings, stirring over medium heat until onion is softened.

  4. Drain the hot pasta and return to pot. Immediately pour onion, garlic and bacon drippings over hot pasta and toss well. Pour beaten eggs over pasta and stir them quickly into pasta so that they coat pasta as evenly as possible. It is important that pasta still be steaming hot for this step, since it is the heat from the pasta that will cook the eggs. Add cheese and reserved bacon; stir again. Serve immediately
