Recipe Ingredients for soya chunk and vegetable cornish like pasties (1) PASTIE

5 ounces (141.75g) soya chunks
300 ml boiling water
0.18 oz (5g) bouillon - swiss vegetable, powder
4 ounces potatoes, diced
4 ounces carrots, sliced
4 ounces celery, sliced
400 grams canned tomatoes, chopped with juice
1 medium onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, pureed
1 tablespoon tomato puree
1 teaspoon dried mixed herbs
3/4 pint boiling water
0.18 oz (5g) bouillon - swiss vegetable, powder
1 salt and pepper, season to taste
1 1/2 pounds wholewheat flour
12 ounces margarine
1 teaspoon salt

Recipe Directions for soya chunk and vegetable cornish like pasties (1) PASTIE

  1. Fry off the onion and garlic for 3-4 minutes then add all the other vegetables apart from tomatoes saute for 10 minutes with lid on pan, stirring occasionally.

  2. Meanwhile rehydrate soya chunks with 1/2 pint stock. After 10 minutes take lid off add all the other ingredients, mix well, season to taste and cook for 30 minutes.

  3. Make the pastry and wrap in cling film and chill for 1 hour.

  4. Using a saucer as a template roll out and cut out rounds, fill each round with about 2 desert spoons of the cooled filling. lift carefully and pinch the top together to form a pastie.

  5. Place pasties on a non stick baking sheet not too close together brush with a little milf or egg if desired and cook in a reheated oven gas mark 7 for 15 minutes, makes 26 pasties.
