Recipe Ingredients for Sourdough Starter

1/2 cup instant potato flakes
2 cups warm water
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 pkg. yeast
1/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons instant potato flakes
1 cup warm water

Recipe Directions for Sourdough Starter

  1. Dissolve yeast in one-half cup of the warm water, add remaining ingredients and stir well.

  2. Keep at room temperature for 24 hours.

  3. Put into refrigerator until ready to use.

  4. Take out and feed with last three ingredients.

  5. Store in a non-metal container and do not use metal spoons.

  6. Stir with a non-metal spoon and let set covered lightly on the counter for

  7. 8-12 hours. Take 1 cup to use in your bread and return the jar to the refrigerator. Keep in refrigerator 3 to 5 days and feed again. If not making bread after feeding starter, throw away one cup (or give to a friend).
