Recipe Ingredients for Sourdough bread

2 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup white flour
1/2 tablespoon salt
1 cup water

Recipe Directions for Sourdough bread

  1. Dissolve 1 TB salt in 1 cup water.

  2. Add 2 cups starter. And then add 5 1/2 cups flour. (A good ratio is 1 1/2 cups white and 4 cups wheat or other grains.) Knead for appx. 10 min.

  3. Cover with a damp towel and let rise overnight at room temperature.

  4. The next morning punch own risen dough and divide into 2 loaves. Cover with damp towel.

  5. Place pan of water on bottom rack of oven and pre-heat to 400 F. Bake for 35 min.

  6. To "feed" starter add back 1 1/2 cups and 1 1/2 cups flour. Stir and cover loosely to store in refrigerator.
