Homemade goodness but you must have a starter.

Recipe Ingredients for Sour Dough Bread

3/4 c. sugar
3 T. mashed potato flakes
1 T. salt
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. canola oil
6 c. bread flour

Recipe Directions for Sour Dough Bread

  1. Feed the starter with 1 cup of very warm water and the first two ingredients. Stir and allow to sit at room temperature for 8-12 hours.

  2. Remove 1 cup of starter and put in a large bowl. Put the jar of starter back in the refrigerator. In the bowl, add 1 1/2 cups of warm water and the other 4 ingredients. Add the flour, 1 cup at a time. Stir with a wooden spoon or use a dough hook on a mixer.

  3. Grease a large bowl, add dough and turn over so the oily side is up. Cover and let stand at room temp no more than 12 hours.

  4. Punch down and knead a little. Divide into two leaves and let rise about 4-8 hours until double. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
