Recipe Ingredients for soda bread

4 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
4 tbsp butter
1 3/4 cups buttermilk
1 egg
1 tsp orange zest
1/2 cup dried currants

Recipe Directions for soda bread

  1. Pre heat oven to 375 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Combine all dry ingredients in large bowl.

  3. Using very cold butter, cut butter into 1/2 inch chunks. Once cut, blend into flour.

  4. Combine egg and buttermilk in a measuring cup. Wisk mixture with a fork.

  5. Add liquid mixture to dry mixture. Mix throughly.

  6. Place onto a floured board and kneed into a circular shape. Cut an X onto the bread with a serated knife.

  7. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes.

  8. Cool and enjoy.
