Super duper tasting sloppy joe's, that are generally good for you! I typically eat them open faced on two slices of bread (i.e. 2 servings). If possible, use a stove top roasting pan (braising pan is our favorite). Otherwise, a large skillet will do. You can also cook the meat and veggies in two separate pans to save time. Also, if you don't have ground clove powder (we don't), just take 5-6 whole cloves and grind them between two spoons. And you can also alter the thickness by reducing the tomato sauce, and increasing the tomato paste.

Recipe Ingredients for Sloppy Joe's (Amazing!!!)

2 tbls olive oil
5 oz shredded carrot
1 red bell pepper
1 medium onion
1/2 cup celery
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 lb Organic Grass-Fed Lean Ground Beef
1/2 cup ketchup
15 oz tomato sauce
4 oz tomato paste
1 tbls worcestershire
1 tbls cider vinegar
2 tbls brown sugar
1 pinch ground cloves
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/4 tsp cayenne
1/4 tsp Peppercorns
10 slice Stone Ground Bread

Recipe Directions for Sloppy Joe's (Amazing!!!)

  1. Heat olive oil and salt in a large saute/braising pan on medium high heat. Add the carrots and saute for 5 min. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and celery. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are translucent (roughly 5 more minutes). Add minced garlic, cook for another 30 seconds.

  2. If you are using a large braising/roasting pan, you can now add the beef. Otherwise, set the veggies aside in a bowl, and using the same pan, brown the meat (well). Crumble the ground beef, letting it brown fully on each side.

  3. If you cooked the meat and veggies separate, you may now combine them. Add the remaining ingredients (ketchup, tomato sauce, worcestershire sauce, vinegar, and brown sugar), stir well, then add the spices (thyme, cayenne, ground cloves) and stir thoroughly again.

  4. Lower the heat to medium low, and let simmer for 10 minutes. Adjust seasonings to taste. Serve open faced on the bread (or a bun). Enjoy!
