Siopao Dough made with half whole wheat flour and half all purpose flour. Fill with favorite meats for a great meal on the go.

Recipe Ingredients for Siopao Dough

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
4 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup fat free milk
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup margarine
1 large egg

Recipe Directions for Siopao Dough

  1. In the large bowl of my kitchen aid, I combine 1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 cup all purpose flour, sugar, yeast and salt. Attach the dough hook and mix on speed 2 for 2 minutes. Scrape the sides to make sure all the dry ingredients have mixed together well.

  2. Heat milk, water, and margarine in a large microwavable liquid measuring cup for 1 minute or so. Stir to make sure margarine is melted and the liquid is very warm (120 degrees).

  3. Turn the speed to 2 again and pour liquid in slowly while the dough hook mixes for 2 minutes. Add the egg and a half cup of flour; for another 2 minutes stir the rest of the flours in a half cup at a time. Knead on the dough hook for another 2 minutes, then cover and let rest in the bowl for 10 minutes.

  4. Roll the dough out into a long log and cut into 21 pieces, which is about 2 oz. Roll into ping pong size balls and let rest for another 10 minutes or so. Roll out flat and fill with a 2 tablespoons of desired filling. Gather edges together to envelope filling and pinch to seal. Place seam side down.

  5. Steam for 12 minutes in parchment lined steamer.
