A simply delicious seitan from scratch recipe.

Recipe Ingredients for Simple Seitan and Onion Sauce

1 cup Vital Wheat Gluten
2 serving Vegetable Bouillon
2 serving Wheat Free Soy Sauce
5 tbsp Corn Starch
1 serving(30 g) Vidalia Onion
6 1tsp Vegetable Oil, Coconut
1 tbsp, crumbled Bay Leaf

Recipe Directions for Simple Seitan and Onion Sauce

  1. Preheat oven to 350F

  2. Add tamari and vegetable bouillon cubes to 6 cups water. Bring to boil and turn off heat. Let cool.

  3. Add 1/4 - 1/2 cup of broth to wheat gluten and knead. Divide into 6 pieces and stretch out into strips.

  4. Place strips in a 9x13 pan

  5. Cut onion into rings and place over strips. Cover with broth. Bake 30 minutes then flip seitan strips over and bake another 20 minutes.

  6. Transfer seitan to container and cover with broth.

  7. Dissolve corn starch in 1 1/4 cups water.

  8. Pour remaining broth into pot and bring to boil. Add corn starch and simmer while whisking for 5 minutes.

  9. Pan-fry seitan strips 3-4 minutes per side in coconut oil and serve with onion sauce.
