The extremely basic white bread recipe from the blog The Simple Dollar: http://www.thesimpledollar.com/2007/11/04/homemade-bread-cheap-delicious-healthy-and-easier-than-you-think/

Recipe Ingredients for Simple Homemade Bread

3 1/2 cups unbleached flour
5 tsp granulated sugar
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1/4 cups 2% milk
1 1/2 tbsp butter
1 cup water

Recipe Directions for Simple Homemade Bread

  1. Proof the yeast in 1 cup warm water.

  2. Add the milk, butter (melted), sugar, and salt to the yeast/water mixture. Mix well.

  3. Add 2c. flour, mix well, and add additional flour in roughly 1/4 c. increments until the dough is only slightly sticky; turn out onto a floured surface and knead for ten minutes.

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and allow it to rise for an hour. After punching down the dough, turn it back out onto the floured surface, shape it, and place it in a loaf pan.

  5. Allow to rise for another hour, and then bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.

  6. Immediately turn the loaf out of the pan and allow it to cool completely before cutting.
