Simple shortcake recipe for serving with berries and cream.

Recipe Ingredients for Shortcake

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons shortening
6 tablespoons milk

Recipe Directions for Shortcake

  1. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening until mixture is crumbly.

  2. Stir in milk just until moistened.

  3. Drop by 1/3 cupfuls 2 in. apart onto an un-greased baking sheet.

  4. Flatten into 2-1/2-in. circles.

  5. Sprinkle with remaining sugar.

  6. Bake at 425 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

  7. Remove to a wire rack to cool.
