Delicious shortcake to have with strawberries or stewed rhubarb. Tastes like sweet biscuits.

Recipe Ingredients for Shortcake

2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 egg
2/3 cup milk

Recipe Directions for Shortcake

  1. Preheat oven to 450 and grease an 8x8 pan.

  2. In a mixing bowl, stir together dry ingredients.

  3. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Combine egg & milk and add all at once to dry ingredients.

  5. Spread dough in pan and bake for 15 to 18 minutes.
