The traditional recipe (or one of many!) done in the slow cooker.

Recipe Ingredients for Shepherd's Pie

1 lb turkey, ground
1 onion, medium
1/2 tsp salt, seasoned
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp paprika
2 cloves garlic
1 cup peas, frozen
1 cup corn, frozen
1 cup water
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
3 cups mashed potatoes

Recipe Directions for Shepherd's Pie

Use a 4-quart (or greater) slow cooker. Brown the ground meat and onion on the stovetop, and drain any excess fat. Stir the salt, spices, and garlic (I used regular salt; didn't have seasoned!) into the meat. Spray the inside of your stoneware (you should ALWAYS spray the inside of your stoneware!) with cooking spray. Put the meat into the slow cooker and stir in the frozen vegetables, and a cup of water. Add two cups of cheese on top. Press the mashed potatoes down on top of the cheese and meat. Sprinkle with a bit of paprika. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3 hours, then remove the lid and cook on high for 30 minutes to release the condensation and allow the potatoes to brown a bit on top. (I couldn't do this last task as I work all day--hence, the reason I use a crock pot. We're starving when we get home! Still tasted great, albeit a bit watery at the bottom.) Everything is cooked already, so you're really just allowing the flavors to meld and the potatoes to brown. (From the "Make It Fast, Cook It Slow" cookbook by Stephanie O'Dea...best investment I ever made!)
