My adaptation of my grandmothers shepherds pie. You can substitute the meat for any meat (beef, lamb, chicken, etc...), Original recipe called for 1 can of either corn or green beans, but I like it a little thicker on the bottom and greatly prefer green beans. I also added the egg to the beef, and the milk/butter to the mashed potatoes, and cut back on the cheese. I cook two at the same time and have a weeks worth of it. Tastes great heated or cold!

Recipe Ingredients for Shepherds Pie

1 pound Ground Beef
1 1/2 cup Green Beans (1.5 Can)
1 1/2 cup Tomato Sauce (1.5 Can)
4 Potatoes
1 tablespoon Butter
1/2 cup Whole Milk
1/4 cup Colby Cheese
1 Egg
1 tablespoon McCormick Taco Seasoning - Original

Recipe Directions for Shepherds Pie

  1. Start potatoes steaming.

  2. Mix ground beef with taco seasoning and egg in a bowl.

  3. Brown meat over medium heat in frying pan.

  4. When meat is brown, add Green Beans & Tomato Sauce to pan. After sauce is heated, turn down heat and let simmer on low until potatoes are finished.

  5. Melt butter and add to milk.

  6. When potatoes are finished steaming, mash with milk and butter.

  7. Pour browned meat/sauce into 13x9 baking pan. Spread mashed potatoes on top. Lastly sprinkle cheese (colby or chedder) on top.

  8. Preheat oven to 475 and then bake for 15 minutes.
