Recipe Ingredients for Shepard's Pie

2 tbs Olive Oil
2 tbs unsalted butter
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 medium carrots, sliced
2 pounds ground beef
1 tbs Worchestershire sauce
2 tbs ketchup
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 cup broth
8 oz. corn
8 oz. green beans
2 cups mashed potatoes

Recipe Directions for Shepard's Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

  2. In a large skillit, heat oil and 2 Tbs butter over medium high heat. Add onions, garlic and carrots, stir until onions are translucent- about 8 minutes.

  3. Add ground beef and cook until starting to brown, about 10 minutes. Add ketchup, salt, pepper and Worchestershire sauce. Stir to mix and add broth. bring to a low boil. Add beans and corn and return to a simmer.

  4. Transfer beef and vegetable mixture to a 9x13 inch baking glass baking dish. Top evenly with mashed potatoes.

  5. Bake until potatoes begin to brown on the edges, approximately 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand for 15 minutes before serving.
