Recipe Ingredients for Shepard's Pie

1 lb lean ground sirloin
1 onion
3 carrots
3 celery stalks
3 cloves garlic
2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
8 oz beef stock
3/4 oz Gravy, Brown, Dry
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp sage
1 tsp rosemary
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp pepper
5 potatoes
3 tbsp Smart Balance Olive Oil & Butter Blend
1/2 cup milk

Recipe Directions for Shepard's Pie

  1. Brown the meat, drain the liquid and set aside.

  2. Cook the onions, garlic, carrots, and celery with the stock until vegetables are tender and onions are translucent. Add water as necessary.

  3. Return the meat to the pan. Add the beer, bouillon, Worcestershire sauce, gravy, and spices. Add liquid as necessary. (Optional, add a small can of tomato paste)

  4. Simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. Prepare the mashed potatoes (Potatoes, butter, and milk). Add salt and pepper to taste. (skins optional)

  6. Using a 2 QT pan, pie tin, or individual serving ramekins, put the minced mixture on the bottom.

  7. Take spoon fulls of mash and place evenly across the top, about 1 inch apart. Using a fork, gently coax the mash outward until fully connected with the other dollops of mash. Be careful to completely seal the mince with mash, otherwise it will bubble out.

  8. Bake at 400 for 25 minutes, or until top is golden brown and bottom is bubbling.

  9. Serves 4
