These are so good. I hated (Hated!!!) ground turkey before I found a recipe similar to this one. We tweaked it to what you see below. We have them at least once a week. We serve them with roasted red potatoes or baked frozen fries and salad or veggie. I usually use 99% fat free or 93/7 ground turkey. Read the package though, b/c at my store they carry mostly 85/15. If that's all they have I'll use it. Again, check your packaging b/c I can usually make the burger patty for less than 200 calories. With bread and 2% cheese it's about 350 per burger.

Recipe Ingredients for Shelly's Turkey Burgers

1 3/10 lbs. ground turkey
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped (or use garlic powder)
1/3 small onion, grated
3 tbsp parsley, finely chopped
1 egg white
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs

Recipe Directions for Shelly's Turkey Burgers

  1. Combine all ingredients except bread crumbs.

  2. Starting with 1/4 cup, add bread crumbs until the mixture holds together and patties can be easily formed.

  3. Form 4-6 patties.

  4. I usually cook 6-8 minutes on one side, until the juice starts to puddle on the top. Flip and cook another 5 minutes. These are really hard to overcook! Which is great because I am always nervous about undercooked poultry.

  5. I use a cheese grater to grate the onion right into my mixing bowl. You can also finely chop the onion but make sure the pieces are very small. Big pieces can make the burger fall apart. If you stick to 1/3 of a small onion or about 3 tbsp, your burgers won't taste onion-y, the juice just keeps them very moist.

  6. Sometimes I use Montreal Steak Seasoning instead of the garlic, salt, and pepper. Or Worchestire sauce.

  7. This recipe also makes EXCELLENT meatballs. For a meatball sub I make the burgers and top with spaghetti sauce and mozzerella cheese.

  8. Generally we use Arnold Sandwich Thins (only 100 calories per roll), and 2% American cheese, and sometimes microwave bacon (40 calories for 2 slices), plus lots of raw onion and tomato slices. We think these are as good or better than most beef burgers!
