A recipe I adapted from The Seventh Daughter by Cecilia Chiang. Originally it called for asparagus, but all I had available was green beans ? so I improvised! Exceptionally tasty and so easy!

Recipe Ingredients for Shandong Green Beans

1 1/4 pounds Green Beans
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds, for garnish

Recipe Directions for Shandong Green Beans

  1. Have a bowl of ice water ready near cooktop.

  2. Wash beans and remove ends.

  3. Bring a large pot of water to boil over high heat.

  4. Add green beans and cook until crisp tender. About 3 minutes.

  5. Remove from heat. Drain. Plunge them into ice water. Drain again and pat dry. Place in bowl and set aside.

  6. Mix oil, soy sauce, and sugar in small bowl. Stir until sugar dissolves. Just before serving or UP TO and hour ahead toss with blanched green beans.

  7. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds.
