A variation on a traditional Scottish staple food.

Recipe Ingredients for Scottish Oatcakes

3 c. old fashioned oats
3 c. wheat flour
1 1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. cold water

Recipe Directions for Scottish Oatcakes

  1. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Stir in oats. Cut in shortening. Stir in enough water to make a stiff dough.

  2. Roll out on a floured surface to 1/8" and cut into 24 portions.

  3. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes.

  4. Cool on a wire cooling rack.
