Plain version of the classic scone

Recipe Ingredients for Scones

1/3 cup unsalted butter
1 3/4 cups flour
3 tbsp splenda
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
6 tbsp fat free half and half

Recipe Directions for Scones

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.

  2. Combine flour, Splenda, baking powder, and salt in large bowl. Cut in butter (colder is better,) until mixture resembles fine crumbs.

  3. Beat egg and then add to flour/butter mixture along with enough half and half so dough leaves side of bowl. You can add optional ingredients here (raisins, currents, etc)

  4. Turn dough lightly on floored surface and knead 10 times. Roll to 1/2 in thickness. Cut dough in 2 1/2 in circles and bake on ungreased cookie sheet (you can brush tops with additional beaten egg for shiny surface) for 10-12 minutes.
