Recipe Ingredients for schplit pea soop

1 gallon chicken broth
5 lbs split peas
1 lb lentils
2 onions, diced
1/2 lb prosciutto, diced
1/2 lb ham (diced)

Recipe Directions for schplit pea soop

  1. soak peas & lentils in water, 2 to 3 hours

  2. make or buy 1 gallon of chicken broth - mine was made from this thanksgiving's turkey

  3. add a ham bone to the broth, and bring to a simmer

  4. dice onions, sweat gently till translucent. Grind with a stick blender and add to broth

  5. add peas, lentils, and onions to broth.

  6. simmer till most the peas have 'melted.' 4 to 24 hours.

  7. Optionally, add more soaked peas for texture

  8. Discard ham bone

  9. salt to taste.
