1 lb ground beef
1 onion, diced
1 cup carrots, diced
2 cups potatoes, diced
1 cup celery, finely chopped
2 cups tomatoes
4 cups water
1/2 cup pearl barley
2 tsp salt
1 pepper to taste
1/4 tsp garlic powder

  1. Brown ground beef and onion in heavy kettle.

  2. Add the remaining ingredients.

  3. Cook until tender (about 30 minutes).
