Better Homes & Garden Scalloped Potatoes (page 522)

Recipe Ingredients for Scalloped Potatoes

115 g onion
1/2 tsp garlic powder
8 tbsp butter
8 tbsp flour
2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
5 cups milk
1112 g medium potatoes
16 oz chopped ham

Recipe Directions for Scalloped Potatoes

  1. Grease a 1 1/2 quart casserole; set aside.

  2. For sauce, in a small saucepan cook onion and garlic in butter until tender.

  3. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper.

  4. Add milk all at once.

  5. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.

  6. Thinly slice potatoes.

  7. Place half the sliced potatoes in the prepared casserole.

  8. Cover with half the sauce.

  9. Sprinkle half the ham between layers of potatoes

  10. Repeat potato, ham and sauce layers

  11. Bake, covered, in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes.

  12. Uncover and bake for 15 to 20 minutes more or until potatoes are tender
