This meatless meat pie was modified from an old Good Housekeeping recipe. The tangy apples and aromatic curry spices make this a hearty dish for cold weather.

Recipe Ingredients for Savory Meatless Pie

12 oz Morningstar Beef Crumbles
1 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp curry powder
12 oz vegetable broth
2 tbsp corn starch
2 small Granny Smith Apples, peeled and coarsely chopped
1/2 tsp thyme
1/8 tsp black pepper
9 oz frozen green beans, French cut
8 rolls Pillsbury crescent roll dough
1 tbsp sesame seeds

Recipe Directions for Savory Meatless Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

  2. Combine vegetable broth and starch. Heat to a simmer and cook for two minutes or until thickened. Set aside.

  3. In a heavy 10-inch skillet, heat oil and saute onion and garlic until translucent.

  4. Add the Morningstar crumbles and curry powder. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the crumbles are completely warmed.

  5. Stir thickened vegetable gravy, apples, thyme, green beans, and pepper into crumbles mixture. Heat until boiling, then reduce heat to medium low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until apples are soft.

  6. Pour mixture into a 9.5" by 1.5" deep pie or quiche dish. Separate crescent roll triangles and arrange in a spoke fashion over the dish with narrow ends pointing toward the center. Fold back the tips at the center to expose filling. Crimp the dough against the dish and pinch the triangle edges together to seal. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  7. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
