Uses lean ground beef as well as sausage. Very good with buttered garlic bread, or Pillsbury garlic sticks. Will fill you full on its own, though.

Recipe Ingredients for Sausage Spaghetti

1 lb Beef, Ground, 93% Lean Meat / 7% Fat, Crumbles - Cooked, Pan-browned
1 lb Pork Sausage, Crumbles - Cooked, Pan-browned, Drained (I like to use Owens Hot Pork Sausage)
737 g can of Hunts Four Cheese Spaghetti Sauce
411 g (can) of Petite Diced Tomatoes
184 g (can) of Mushrooms
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp garlic salt
1 tbsp italian seasoning
12 oz whole wheat spaghetti noodles

Recipe Directions for Sausage Spaghetti

  1. Brown sausage and ground beef together in a good sized pot.

  2. Fill another large pot with water and bring to a boil, while browning the meat. I put a lid on the pan of water, to speed the boiling.

  3. While meat is still pink, add onion powder, garlic salt, and italian seasoning.

  4. When meat mixture is done browning it will be VERY greasy. Drain it in a colander, and then stack about 7 to 10 paper towels on top of each other.

  5. When the grease isn't dripping from the colander anymore, pour the meat mixture onto the paper towels, pull the corners up over the meat, and press down to squeeze as much grease out as you can. I do this about 3 or 4 times, with a new set of paper towels each time. You will be amazed at how much grease just soaks the paper towels. And imagine putting that in your body!! Eeuch!

  6. Pour meat mixture back into the pan. Add cans of spaghetti sauce, diced tomatoes, and mushrooms. Turn your heat to med-high, cover and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. Clean the colander.

  8. When your water pan is boiling, break your noodles in half and put 'em in the water for about 7 to 12 minutes, depending how firm or mooshy you prefer them. I also add about a cap full of vegetable oil or canola oil to keep the noodles from sticking together.

  9. When the noodles are done, drain them in the clean colander and spray with cool water.

  10. Ready to serve!!
