Use lean sausage to decrease the fat content.

Recipe Ingredients for Sausage Breakfast Strudel

1 lb turkey sausage
8 oz fat free cream cheese
2 egg yolks
1 tsp grated nutmeg
1 apple
1/2 cup margarine
15 oz phyllo dough
1/2 cup bread crumbs

Recipe Directions for Sausage Breakfast Strudel

  1. Brown sausage in frying pan until almost cooked.

  2. Add cream cheese and mix until melted.

  3. Let cool for a few minutes.

  4. Add the egg yolks, grated apple, thyme, nutmeg and season with salt and pepper.

  5. Butter one sheet of phyllo and sprinkle with bread crumbs.

  6. Top another sheet and butter.

  7. Place about 4 tbsp of the sausage on the bottom of the third of the phyllo.

  8. Fold over the sides and then roll up.

  9. Place on baking sheet and bake until lightly browned (approx. 20 minutes).
