A delicious, sweet-savory spaghetti sauce. My boyfriend's mother's recipe. We could both eat this every day. For best results, serve over angel hair pasta cooked according to package instructions.

Recipe Ingredients for Sandy's Spaghetti Sauce

2 lbs. ground beef, chuck
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 large onion, chopped
6 oz tomato paste
29 oz tomato sauce
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbls vinegar
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp italian seasoning
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tbls chili powder
1 tbls bay leaves

Recipe Directions for Sandy's Spaghetti Sauce

  1. Note: First of all, this recipe has been slightly modified from the original. Normally the recipe calls for corn oil, but we use vegetable oil because it's what we have on hand. Also, where the recipe says 1 tbls bay leaves, please substitute 2 whole bay leaves. I only added the amount because it was not in the CC database otherwise. Also, though the sauce is much more saucey if you add the WHOLE 29-oz can of water per below, it may spill out depending on the size of your baking pan. Just be careful, you can always add more water later and keep the same flavor.

  2. Combine together in large baking pan, no need to brown beef first. Rinse cans with water and mix into sauce.

  3. Bake uncovered for 3 hours @325 degrees. Stir every hour to break up beef.
