Recipe Ingredients for Salsbury Steaks

1 pound lean ground beef
1/3 cup dry bread crumbs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 egg, beaten
1 large onion, sliced
1 can condensed beef broth
2 tablespoons cold water
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 mushrooms, sliced (optional)

Recipe Directions for Salsbury Steaks

  1. Mix beef, bread crumbs, salt, pepper and egg together; shape into 4 oval patties about 3/4 inch thick.

  2. Cook patties in 10 inch/or electric skillet over med. heat, turning occasionally, until brown, about 10 minutes; drain.

  3. Add onion, broth and mushrooms if using. Heat until boiling; reduce heat and cover, simmer until beef is done about another 10 minutes.

  4. Remove patties, keep warm. Heat onion mixture to boiling.

  5. Mix water and cornstarch; stir into onion mix, boil and stir until thickened. Serve over patties.
