Recipe Ingredients for Salsbury Steak

1 lb lean beef, ground round
1/4 teaspoon marjoram
1 tablespoon dried onion
3 1/2 tablespoon corn starch
1 1/2 teaspoon beef bouillon
2 cups water
3 ounces canned mushroom pieces
1/4 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper

Recipe Directions for Salsbury Steak

  1. Mix beef, onion and marjoram. Form into 4 patties. Brown each side in skillet over medium-high heat. Cover and reduce heat to simmer. Cook about 10-15 minutes (depending on thickness of patty) until cooked though.

  2. Meanwhile, in medium saucepan, mix 1/2 cup hot water with corn starch and beef boullion granules. Mix until well blended, add in additional 1 1/2 cup water and stir over medium-high heat until boiling. Reduce heat, simmer and stir constantly until thickened. Add mushrooms and pepper to taste. Simmer and stir occasionally about 3-5 more minutes.

  3. Pour gravy over patties, simmer on low about 5 minutes. Serve.
