Recipe from the Fannie Farmer cookbook, modified a bit.

Recipe Ingredients for Salisbury Steak

1 pound lean ground beef
1/3 cup quick oats
1/4 cup egg beaters
4 ounces mushrooms (4 oz can, drained)
1 onion, chopped
1 cup beef broth
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp corn starch
1 tbsp water

Recipe Directions for Salisbury Steak

  1. Mix beef, oats, egg beaters, worcestershire sauce, and seasonings (optional) in a bowl. Shape into four patties.

  2. Brown patties over medium-high heat, about five minutes per side, turning occasionally.

  3. Add broth, onion, and mushrooms to the pan, bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer 15 minutes or until patties are done.

  4. Remove patties and keep warm. Mix cornstarch and water and add to broth, stirring constantly until it thickens into gravy.

  5. Return patties to pan, re-heat if necessary. Serve immediately.
