A skinnier version of Salisbury Steak

Recipe Ingredients for Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy

1 1/2 tsp oil
1/2 cup onions
1/3 cup leeks
1 lbs 95% lean ground beef
1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs
1 large egg
2 cups beef broth
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
8 oz sliced mushrooms
2 tbsp corn starch
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tsp red wine vinegar
1/2 tsp mustard powder
1 tsp mustard

Recipe Directions for Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy

  1. Sauté onions and leeks in oil over medium heat until golden brown, about 5 minutes.

  2. In a large bowl, combine half of the sautéed onions/leeks, ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, 1/8 cup beef broth, salt and black pepper.

  3. Shape into 8 oval patties.

  4. In a large deep skillet over medium-high heat, brown both sides of patties. Set aside on a dish.

  5. Add mushrooms to the skillet, season with salt and pepper and sauté 2-3 minutes.

  6. Return patties to the skillet with the mushrooms.

  7. In a small bowl, blend corn starch and remaining broth until smooth. Mix in remaining onions, leeks, ketchup, vinegar, mustard, and mustard powder.

  8. Pour over meat and mushrooms in skillet.

  9. Cover and cook on low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
