Makes 1 serving

thinly sliced beef steak with filling

Recipe Ingredients for Rouladen

115 grams steak
1 bacon
1 tsp onion
1 tsp mustard
1 tsp dill pickle, diced

Recipe Directions for Rouladen

  1. spread one beef strip with mustard, add bacon strip lengthwise, diced pickle, diced onion and salt and pepper to taste.

  2. roll up beginning with narrowest end, secure with turkey skewer lengthwise, heat olive oil in heavy saucepan/frypan. Brown rouladen. When browned, add water from boiled potatoes or beef broth, about 1/2 cup and cover pan. Simmer until done, about half an hour, making sure pan does not go dry.

  3. Make gravy from the broth. Serve with mashed or new whole potatoes, also good with potato dumplings.

  4. You can make as many rouladens as you like, this is just for one serving. Use lean meat, the bacon provides the fat content and the pickles tenderize the meat as it cooks. Simmer, don't boil, gently cooking rouladen will help it stay moist. amount of water/broth used will depend on how many in pan, and what size of pan you use.
