Indian unleavened bread called roti, when roasted longer becomes crisp and oil-less kakras!! normally for kakras, a large quantity of ghee is added to the flour. left over rotis become delicious wafers!!

Recipe Ingredients for roti/kakra

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 salt to taste
1/2 cup water
1 tsp red peppers, powder

Recipe Directions for roti/kakra

  1. mix all ingredients together to make a stiff dough.

  2. use water as required

  3. divide the dough into 5 portions.

  4. roll out into thin pancakes.

  5. place on hot griddle, cook for a couple of minutes, turn over and cook till the second side is cooked.

  6. rotis are done.

  7. for kakras, continue cooking on the hot griddle, flipping the rotis over frequently till they turn crisp.

  8. on cooling they become crisper still.

  9. alternatively, microwave the rotis for two minutes on high.

  10. on cooling they turn crisp like wafers.
