This is an updated version of my grandmother's heirloom recipe for sweet and sour meatballs. I hope she would approve! It's easy to do some variations on this. For example, you can use chopped hot peppers instead of the chili powder, lemon juice instead of lime juice, as well as change the amount of cranberry sauce for more or less sweetness. Enjoy!

Recipe Ingredients for Rose's Sweet and Sour Meatballs (updated by Evan)

1 pound ground beef
1/4 cup minced onion
2 T breadcrumbs
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 egg white
25 1/2 ounce tomato sauce
2 T chili powder
1/2 cup cranberry sauce
1 teaspoon lime juice

Recipe Directions for Rose's Sweet and Sour Meatballs (updated by Evan)

  1. Combine the first 6 ingredients (beef through egg white) and 2 tablespoons of the tomato sauce in a medium bowl. Shape into 25 meatballs.

  2. Place a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium until hot. Add the meatballs, and cook 6 minutes, browning on all sides.

  3. Stir in the remaining tomato sauce, chili powder, and cranberry sauce.

  4. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes or until the meatballs are done, stirring occasionally.

  5. Add lime juice and additional salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Serve over white rice.
