Recipe Ingredients for Roomali Roti: without oil

1/6 cup all purpose flour
1/16 tsp salt
1 tsp spreadable butter
2 tbsp water

Recipe Directions for Roomali Roti: without oil

  1. In a large bowl, sift together four and salt. Add butter and mix together with a fork until crumbly.

  2. Mix in water until dough pulls together. You may not need all the water.

  3. Turn dough out on a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Cover and set aside for about 45 minutes.

  4. Knead the dough again until it becomes smooth.

  5. Form dough into a round. Roll as thinly as possible, using a light dust of flower if necessary to keep it from sticking.

  6. Invert a heavy, cast iron nonstick skillet over a burner to heat it. Flip and spread roti over the pan. Cook for about 40 to 50 seconds before flipping, cooking for an additional 40-50 seconds. Flip one last time, and cook to desired hardness.
