Making apple butter in the oven, rather than on the stovetop, produces a delectable spread with a distinctive caramelized flavor. This is a healthful alternative to commercial varieties, which usually contain added sugars. Makes about 1 cup, and depending on what you choose to use it for (spread, etc.) the calorie count will of course vary (I've used a serving size of 1 tablespoon (about 15g each) This is a great make-ahead recipe. Simple store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months. (Adapted from here: http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/roasted_apple_butter.html)
