Made of rice and lentil, is a little heavy on oil. Served with sugar and dahi, is wholesome.

Recipe Ingredients for Rice-lentil upuma

1 cup rice
1/4 cup lentils
1 pepper, hot chili, red
1 tsp pepper, black
2 tbsp oil
2 tsp black bean
1 tsp mustard
1 salt to taste
4 cups water

Recipe Directions for Rice-lentil upuma

  1. Grind coarsely, rice and lentil together. keep aside.

  2. heat oil, add mustard, allow to splutter, add black bean, add black pepper and red chili. when black pepper starts to splutter add the ground rice-lentil saute for a few minutes.

  3. add salt, water, stir well, close pan, reduce flame and cook till the water is absorbed.

  4. stir well, and cook till rice is done.
