Taken from food-network - needs to be adapted to be low fat - but yum!

Recipe Ingredients for Refried Beans

2 cups pinto beans
3/4 cup shortening
2 cups chopped yellow onions
1 1/2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1 teaspoon chopped oregano
1/2 t liquid smoke

Recipe Directions for Refried Beans

  1. Soak beans overnight then cook for 2 hrs. Mash with some of the cooking liquid in the pot.

  2. In a big skillet add shortening, onions, and liquid smoke cook 4 - 6 min.

  3. Add garlic, chili powder, cumin, cayenne, and salt cook 1 min.

  4. Add beans and oregano and cook 15 - 20 min. Add water if they get too dry
