Mom's version clipped from late 60's magazine is revised and tested for lower sugar. Nice if you want an easy not-so-rich desert. Can substitute pecans if you have them. Use a good pie apple like 20 oz., granny smith, or pippin for best results.

Recipe Ingredients for Reduced Sugar Huguenot Torte

1 medium Egg, Whole
1/4 cup Sugars, Granulated
0.33 cup Splenda
1/4 cup Wheat Flour, White, All-purpose, Enriched, Bleached
1 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/8 tsp Salt, Table
1 cup Chopped Walnuts
1 1/2 medium apple Apples
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1/2 tsp Cinnamon, Ground
1/2 tsp Nutmeg, Ground

Recipe Directions for Reduced Sugar Huguenot Torte

  1. Mix ingredients in following order: egg, sugar, splenda, flour, baking powder, salt, nuts, apple, spices.

  2. Pour into greased pie plate.

  3. Bake 325 for 35 minutes OR 350 for 25 minutes. The torte will have a golden brown macaroon appearing crust.

  4. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream if desired, but good on it's own.
