Jamaican one pot meal - Delicious savoury beef stew that can be cooked on the stove or in a slowcooker.

Recipe Ingredients for Red Pea Stew

1 kg Beef
24 oz Kidney Beans
16 oz Water
1 Onions
3 cloves Garlic
2 tsp Thyme
1 tsp Hot Sauce, Scotch Bonnet
2 tbsp Salt
2 tbsp Black Pepper
1 tbsp Oil
1 cup Flour
1/4 tsp Salt
1/3 cup Water

Recipe Directions for Red Pea Stew

  1. If you are using fresh, dried kidney beans then soak them in water overnight.

  2. Brown meat in one tbsp of oil. Chop the meat into bite size pieces.

  3. Place the beans (including the water they were stored / soaked in) in a large saucepan and add the water, meat, hot sauce, salt, pepper, thyme to the pot.

  4. Chop onions and Garlic then add to the pot.

  5. Simmer on medium low for two hours or leave in crockpot on low for 8 hours.

  6. Mix Flour, 1/4 tsp of salt and 1/3 cup water to make a dough. Roll walnut sized balls of dough into long tubes with pointy ends and drop into the pot, repeating until you are out of dough.

  7. Simmer soup for another 20 minutes or until dough is cooked.
