Recipe Ingredients for Red Lentil Soup

1 cup Red Lentils
190 grams Onions
1 pepper Pepper, Serrano
454 grams Organic Tomatoes
300 g water
2 tsp Garlic
2 tsp Ginger Root
2 tbsp Grapeseed Oil
1 tsp Cumin Seed
1 tsp Paprika
1 tsp Turmeric, Ground
1 packet (0.5 oz) Honey, Strained Or Extracted

Recipe Directions for Red Lentil Soup

  1. In medium saucepan, over medium heat, combine the drained lentils, onion, tomato, chile, ginger, garlic and enough water to cover.

  2. Bring to boil, then lower the heat and simmer until the lentils are tender, about 30 to 45 minutes.

  3. Whisk the cooked lentils to release some of their starch and break them down further.

  4. In small saute pan, warm the canola oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and cook until they are sizzling and spluttering.

  5. Stir in the turmeric and paprika.

  6. Pour the seasoned oil into the lentils (be prepared for a big sizzle).

  7. Stir to combine, add salt, to taste, and a small drizzle of honey. Ladle into soup bowls and garnish with cilantro.
